Oxford collects diapers, wipes for Seymour nonprofit

    OXFORD – A month-long diaper drive netted hundreds of diapers and boxes of wipes for low-income children throughout Connecticut.

     The drive was organized by town hall employee Kelly Weymer and will help parents of children aged one month to two years. 

     Weymer  turned over the diapers and wipes to Meghan Tarby, executive director and social worker for the Seymour-based Connecticut Partnership for Children Inc. Many of the diapers were donated by the community and the newly-formed Womens Club of Oxford Greens which was organized by Rosemary Samuelson, president.

   Tarby was extremely thankful for all of the donations and personally thanked Weymer and the womens club. She said that if anyone would like to do a diaper/wipe drive they can contact her at 203-881-1804. She said the diapers will go to several clients in Oxford and the Valley and to anyone else needing them. “No one is turned away,’’ said Tarby, an Oxford native.

    First Selectman George Temple said the town will continue collecting items throughout the year to help those in need. There will be a box in the foyer of town hall for anyone wanting to give.

Diaper collection to benefit nonprofit slated in Seymour

SEYMOUR - Connecticut Partnership for Children, Inc. will host its second Bi-Annual "Diaper Drive-By" April 6 to benefit the agency's diaper bank at 135 Main St. 

As part of "The Big Event," a nationwide day of service for college students, a group of Quinnipiac University students will be volunteering to collect diapers. 

In addition, members of the Walnut Hill Community Church's (Strand Theater Campus) Middle School Youth Group will be volunteering at this event.
The concept of the "Diaper Drive-By" is members of the community who wish to donate to the diaper bank, can purchase diapers or wipes on their own time, and drive up to the building's "Loading Zone" at 135 Main St., between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. April 6, dropping their donation with a student volunteer.  

At this time, the diaper bank is especially seeking donations of diapers sizes 4 and 5, but appreciates any assistance the community can provide. 
All packages must be new and unopened. 
The diaper bank will provide services to any qualifying family throughout Connecticut, and is an ongoing program throughout the year.

Nonprofit in Seymour to hold diaper drive Saturday

Organization's founder commended for helping community

SEYMOUR - Meghan Tarby, executive director of the nonprofit Connecticut Partnership for Children, is holding a diaper collection Saturday to assist local families struggling to make ends meet.

Tarby is a remarkable young woman who is active in the community.
In addition to running the nonprofit organization she founded in 2009, she owns Looking Glass Events, LLC, and The Mad Hatter Boutique, 5 Bank St.
Looking Glass Events recently donated more than $13,000 toward renovation costs of the Strand Theater marquee, which made its debut last week. Tarby, through Looking Glass Events, produced two burlesque shows at the theater at 165 Main St. to raise the funds.

According to a story written by my colleague, Register correspondent Jean Falbo-Sosnovich, "The drive is scheduled for Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to noon outside the Connecticut Partnership for Children office at 135 Main St. Donors won’t even need to get out of their cars, as the volunteers will be ready to collect items as you ‘drive by.’ 

"Tarby said new, unopened packages of diapers and baby wipes, as well as Pull-ups in sizes 2T-5T, are needed. Gift cards to area grocery stores or retailers such as Target and Walmart are also welcome."

Tarby is to be commended for her dedication to helping others and giving back to the community.
