Ansonia High Class of 2014 graduates announced

          ANSONIA – Diplomas were awarded to 133 members of the Class of 2014 from Ansonia High School during commencement exercises on June 18 at Jarvis Field. 

        The graduates are as follows (one asterisk indicates students who ranked in the top 20 percent of the class; two asterisks after the name indicates those receiving a Diploma of Distinction):

Ansonia Middle School awards prizes

ANSONIA - Commencement prizes were awarded to Ansonia Middle School eighth graders during a program on June 17 in the Ansonia Middle School auditorium. 
They were:

      Ansonia Middle School Prize, for outstanding scholastic achievement, to the highest ranking graduates: Yao Dong and Stephanie Chika Umeugo.

      Ansonia Federation of Teachers Local 1012 Prize, for highest average in algebra: Yao Dong and Stephanie Chika Umeugo.

   Ansonia Administrators’ Organization Award, for highest average in language arts: Millenia Iris Aleksiejczuk-Trinidad and Stephanie Chika Umeugo.
      Ansonia Middle School Principals’ Award, for special recognition: Jayme Allen Tuttle and Payton Westine.
      Ansonia Middle School Science Prize, for outstanding achievement: Yao Dong and Stephanie Chika Umeugo.
      Raymond Steeves Award, for most improved in academics and citizenship: Tamaya Lanise Upchurch and Eliezer Junior Rivera.
      Walter Richter Memorial Award, given by Hilltop Hose Co. #5, for outstanding effort: Peter Vincent Aquila and Daniel Bedoya.
      Seymour “Bob” Spanier Memorial Awards, given by Hilltop Hose Co. #5, for improvement in math and volunteerism: Ben Jesulaitis and Kelly Lynne Zarka..
      Knights of Columbus - Holy Rosary Council Award, for the most motivated and conscientious: Shafia Syed and Tymagee Bush.
      Ansonia American Legion Post 50 Award, for good citizenship, patriotism and spirit: Cameron Amato and Dylan Trivers.

      Ansonia Middle School Awards, for outstanding achievement: Alexandra Nicole Ramos and Judi A Palmer (art); Crisalin Long and Jessalyn R. Mcgovern (music); Julian James Guevara and Charles R.       Ernest M. Grant Memorial Scholarship Award, to the second highest ranking Black girl and boy on each team: Tamarrah Mo’nique Haynes, Deshawn Fogle, Catherine MaryAnn Craig, and Shaquelie J. Rubie.

2 top Quinnipiac students are from Ansonia, Seymour

HAMDEN - Two students from the Valley are among those who will graduate at the top of their class on Sunday when Quinnipiac University holds its 82nd undergraduate commencement exercises during two outdoor ceremonies on the Mount Carmel Campus, 275 Mount Carmel Ave.

Ikechukwu E. Umeugo of Ansonia, will receive both the President’s Scholarship Award for being one of four students to have the highest grade point average in the graduating class.
He also will receive the Alumni Association’s Academic Achievement Award for having the highest grade point average in the School of Business
Umeugo will be among the 734 students who will graduate at the 10 a.m. commencement ceremony for students in the School of Business and College of Arts and Sciences. Jessica Jackley, the founder and former chief marketing officer of KIVA, a microlending site, will deliver the commencement address and receive an honorary degree.  
James McGlothlin, chairman and CEO of The United Co., also will receive an honorary degree.

Samantha L. Barracca of Seymour, will receive the Alumni Association’s Academic Achievement Award for having the highest grade point average in the School of Communications. She will be among the 776 students who will graduate at the 3 p.m. commencement ceremony for students in the School of Communications, School of Health Sciences and School of Nursing.  
Josh Elliott of “Good Morning America” will deliver the commencement address and receive an honorary degree.
 
        Quinnipiac enrolls 6,200 full-time undergraduate and 2,300 graduate students in 58 undergraduate and more than 20 graduate programs of study in its School of Business and Engineering, School of Communications, School of Education, School of Health Sciences, School of Law, Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine, School of Nursing and College of Arts and Sciences
