Hospital's golf tourney features 2 holes-in-one

Weinhaus and Glynn
A hole-in-one on a golf course is a rare occurrence in itself. However, when there is not only one, but two holes-in one on the same day – at the same tournament, and both on prize holes – that’s history in the making!

That’s exactly what happened at the 2012 Griffin Golf Classic which was held June 12 at Race Brook Country Club in Orange.

About halfway through the round, Patrick Glynn, Vice President of Sales at Highland Capital Brokerage in Farmington (photo, right), aced the 200-yard 12th hole, winning an HD TV.
Just about an hour later, Steven Weinhaus (photo, left) of Lord Chamberlain Nursing and Rehab Center located in Stratford, recorded his ace on the 15th hole, winning a 2012 Honda CrossTour, provided by Curtiss Ryan Honda.

The above information is from a release from Griffin Hospital in Derby.

Seymour girls win tennis tournament

With the win, the team also made the All-NVL Team and won gold medals, Coach Missy Orosz said in a release.
They finished the regular season at 14-3 and combined over the past three seasons they are 47-4.

In post season play this year they are 5-0. Recently they competed in the NVL Girls Tennis Doubles tournament. Due to rain delays and proms from other league member schools, the tournament turned into a day-long event that started at 7:30 a.m. and didn't finish until 7:20 p.m. when the girls captured an unbelievable day of tennis playing.

On their quest to the title they defeated Livia Snehu/Betthany Galluci from Wolcott by a score of 8-4; their teammates and practice partners Cierra Green/Pallavi Kasturi from Seymour by a score of 8-5; Sema Hasango/Marineva Maghari from Kennedy 8-3 and a come from behind set to break two service points and win three games in a row to defeat Liz Martin/Hope Gavigan from Woodland by a score of 9-7.

"What a great and long day of tennis for our program, fans and of course the girls. It was so hot and they had 30 minute breaks in between sets and needed to stay focused while waiting for other courts to open as the NVL singles tournament was also going on at the same time," Orosz said.

"Shannon's alley returns were right on target and Danielle had some incredible nets shots and really gutted it out with her serves when we were down by two points and the game was on the line with Woodland up 6-7 to tie it up at 7-7. It showed that they never gave up and wanted this for their senior year. They won three games in a row to win this. I am so proud of them."
For such a great season and hard work, Danielle and Shannon along with Cierra Green and her partner Pallavi Kasturi at number two doubles will be competing Saturday at Yale for the state opens on Saturday.
