ANSONIA >> Emergency crews used the jaws of life to rescue four people who were injured Tuesday morning when a car crashed into a utility pole, a parked car and a building near the town line with Derby.
The crash on Westfield Avenue was reported around 10 a.m. United Illuminating said on its website that 168 people were without power after the accident, but it was expected to be restored before 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Ansonia Police Lt. Andrew Cota said that all of the people in the care were adults in their 20s and 30s. Some of their injuries were serious, but it was not immediately clear how severely each person was injured.
All of the occupants were taken to hospitals in New Haven and Bridgeport for treatment.
All of the vehicle’s doors were smashed in the collision and fire crews had to use the Jaws of Life to free the people in the car.
The crash happened just off of Exit 18 on Route 8 northbound, but no significant delays were being reported in the area after it happened.

Seymour police: 5 injured in 3-vehicle crash

Five people were injured in a 3-vehicle crash on West Street in Seymour.

SEYMOUR >> Five people were injured after a three-vehicle crash on West Street Friday afternoon, police said.
The injuries are not expected to be life threatening, police said.
West Street will be closed from Cedar Street to Derby Avenue “until further notice,” according to police.
The accident happened before 2:30 p.m. Friday.
The crash involved two pickup trucks and a SUV. Firefighters had to cut the roof off of one of the pickup trucks.
No other details were immediately available. Check back for updates.

Superintendent of Schools Carol Merlone was on the scene and said three students were complaining of various injuries. All 10 students were taken to the hospital as a precaution, as was the bus driver, Merlone said.
Ansonia police spokesman Lt. Andrew Cota said the driver of the van, John Marcucio, was found at fault and charged with following too close. Cota said the accident occurred at 12:45 p.m.
Ansonia and Seymour ambulance crews responded, as well as Hilltop Hose Company 5 and Webster Hose Hook and Ladder Company trucks and several Ansonia police vehicles.

Shelton man, 92, dies from injuries in early morning two-car crash
The Fire Department and EMS were also sent because it was reported that one person was unable to get out of the vehicle due to the damage to the door, Kozlowsky said.
Shelton Police, Fire, and EMS responded to the scene. The driver of a Honda, a 92-year old resident, was extricated from his vehicle.
Kozlowsky said he did not have any visible injuries and he was conscious and communicating with personnel at scene, but was transported to the hospital after complaining of chest pain.
The driver of the Mazda, a 24-year old Shelton resident, claimed minor injuries from the accident.
An initial police investigation revealed the driver of the Honda was exiting a driveway when his vehicle collided with a Mazda traveling north on Walnut Tree Hill Road.
Police later learned that the driver of the Honda succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, the release said.
The Shelton Police Traffic Division Reconstruction Team is investigating the accident. Any witnesses or persons with additional information are asked to call the Shelton Police Traffic Division, 203- 924-1544.

Shelton crash victim identified
SHELTON - Police have identified the motorcyclist who died late Monday afternoon in a motor vehicle accident as Brian C. Laneuville, 24, of Seymour, Detective Sgt. Kevin Ahern said today in a written release.
The operator of the other motor vehicle has been identified as Noreen Labranche, 54, of Seymour. She reported no injuries, police said.
Although there is an ongoing investigation into the crash a preliminary investigation shows both vehicles were southbound on River Road, the release said.
The collision occurred at the driveway to the Riverdale Diner. No arrests have been made.
Anyone who may have been a witness to the crash is asked to call the Shelton Police Traffic Division, 203-924-1544.
