SEYMOUR - The annual Seymour Trunk or Treat event has been moved to Sunday Oct. 28 due to the rainy weather forecast.

 

Set-up times are between 5 and 6 pm (come earlier if you like)  The event is from 6 pm to 8 pm at Seymour Middle School. See flyer below for event details.

Get Your Mischief On!

DERBY- You're invited to our Mischief Eve Bash this Sunday —a family friendly day filled with live music, fun, games and prizes.

Contests will include stein holding, egg toss, toilet paper wrap, pumpkin painting, candy corn guess, candy corn relay and more.

Weenie Lynn and Liberty Rock food trucks will be here as well as buckets of wings from Dew Drop! We will also be launching a new beer — MISCHIEF IPA — for our BAD SONS doing GOOD THINGS charity tap line with the Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley.

DERBY - The 16th Annual Children’s Health and Safety Fair will be “treating” families to Halloween fun on Fri., Oct. 27 from 3-7 p.m. at Warsaw Park on Pulaski Highway in Ansonia.

 

Griffin Hospital Community Outreach and Valley Parish Nurse Program, Safe Kids Greater Naugatuck Valley, Griffin Faculty Physicians, and Avangrid encourage families to put on their Halloween costumes and come to a “Halloween Hoopla,” featuring free healthy treats, games, and information on a variety of health, wellness and safety programs.

 

The event will be held rain or shine.

 

Interactive health, wellness and safety displays at the event will include poison prevention, good hand washing, and how to call 9-1-1. There will also be a bike helmet clinic and a safety house exhibit to teach about safety features in homes. Free, fitted bike helmets will be available for the first 500 children.

The 14th Annual Children’s Health and Safety Fair will be “treating” families to Halloween fun this year.

 

Set for Oct. 30 from 3-8 p.m. at Warsaw Park on Pulaski Highway in Ansonia, families are encouraged to come in their Halloween costumes to a “Halloween Hoopla,” featuring free healthy treats, games, a show by Freakout Magician Chris Lengyel, along with a variety of health, wellness and safety programs. The event will be held rain or shine.

 

“The Halloween Hoopla will be a safe, family-friendly environment where children can do their trick-or-treating and the whole family can learn about important information that will keep them safe and healthy on Halloween and year-round,” said Daun Barrett, RN, Director of Griffin Hospital's Community Outreach and Valley Parish Nursing Program.

Family Haunts will host Halloween masquerade ball in Ansonia

ANSONIA >> Family Haunts, a paranormal investigation school, will host a spooktacular Halloween masquerade ball starting at 7 p.m. Oct. 31 at Mustang Sally's Saloon, 370 E. Main St.

Admission is $30 per person, and $15 for those 12 and under. Nobody under age 10, however, will be allowed admission. Ticket price includes live music, a buffet, contests and more. There is discounted admission for families of four or more.

Wesley Village Halloween 5k & Fun Walk set for Oct. 25 in Shelton

SHELTON >> Over 500 runners and walkers are expected at the 6th annual Wesley Village Halloween 5k & Fun Walk on Saturday, Oct. 25

The event starts at 9 a.m. at the Wesley Village Campus, 580 Long Hill Ave, and features a 5k run, 1-mile walk and ½ mile Kids Fun Run. This year’s 5k course will be a flatter out and back course.

Bring the entire family for a morning of Halloween fun. At the post-race party there will be entertainment, a brunch with famous egg sandwiches, smoothies, fruit granola bars, bagels and more. Children’s activities include a bounce house, face painting, a clown and the opportunity to trick or treat. Costumes are encouraged. 

The first 400 5k entrants receive a free tech shirt. Cotton t-shirts will be given to all other event participants. Runners aged 70+ run for free, pre-registration is required. With over 10 percent of last year’s race field over 70, the race may have one of the highest percentages of older runners in Connecticut.

The race proceeds benefit award-winning programs at the Wesley Village campus, which provides independent living, assisted living, rehab services and skilled nursing care. 

The title sponsor for this year’s race is the CE Floyd Company. The Fun Walk sponsor is M&T Bank. The Kids Fun Run sponsor is Merit Insurance.  Also supporting this year’s race as major sponsors are O’Connor Davies, John J. Community in Shelton hosts Halloween parade

SHELTON - Bishop Wicke Health and Rehabilitation Center staff from multiple departments at the nursing and rehabilitation center donned costumes and provided residents with their choice of hats, feather boas, gloves, masks, wigs, and other outfits in preparation for a Halloween parade last week.

The parade, led by Activities Director Mary Barbin and resident Barbara Charles, wrapped around the newly renovated nursing pavilions and was followed by teams of staff and residents all dressed in silly, scary, and spooky costumes of all kinds, with monster music trailing them all along the way.
The highlight was the grand appearance of the “Peanuts Gang,” a group of nursing staff dressed as the classic Charlie Brown characters.
The group created giant handmade paper mache masks to impress the residents, gathering at the home of a co-worker after their regular shifts were over to work on the project.

Staff and residents gathered in the resident dining room for a costume contest following the parade and costumed characters “performed” before residents and judge, Lori Bauer, Assistant Director of Nursing.

The prize for best costume went to the team of Charlie Brown characters, who not only “wowed” the crowd with their creativity but also performed a short skit based on the Charlie Brown story of “The Great Pumpkin” to the great applause of residents and staff!

The Parent Child Resource Center wishes all of you a very Happy and Safe Halloween! As we prepare for trick or treaters, we thought to send some useful tips for safety.

Considering our focus is on supporting families and the well-being of children, we wish you all a very Happy and Safe Halloween Celebration!

  

HALLOWEEN SAFETY TIPS

Walk Safely

Cross the street at corners, using traffic signals and crosswalks.








Look left, right and left again when crossing and keep looking as you cross. 








Put electronic devices down and keep heads up and walk, don't run, across the street.








Teach children to make eye contact with drivers before crossing in front of them.








Always walk on sidewalks or paths. If there are not sidewalks or paths, be sure to walk facing traffic, as far to the left as possible.








Watch for cars that are turning or backing up. Teach children to never dart out into the street or cross between parked cars.

Trick or Treat With an Adult

Children under the age of 12 should not be alone at night without adult supervision. If kids are mature enough to be out without supervision, they should stick to familiar areas that are well lit and trick-or-treat in groups.

Keep Costumes Both Creative and Safe

Decorate costumes and bags with reflective tape or stickers and, if possible, choose light colors.








Choose face paint and makeup whenever possible instead of masks, which can obstruct a child's vision.








Have kids carry glow sticks or flashlights to help them see and be seen by drivers. 








When selecting a costume, make sure it is the right size to prevent trips and falls. 

Drive Extra Safely on Halloween

Slow down and be especially alert in residential neighborhoods. Children are excited on Halloween and may move in unpredictable ways.








Take extra time to look for kids at intersections, on medians and on curbs.








Enter and exit driveways and alleys slowly and carefully.








Eliminate any distractions inside your car so you can concentrate on the road and your surroundings.








Drive slowly, anticipate heavy pedestrian traffic and turn your headlights on earlier in the day to spot children from greater distances.








Popular trick-or-treating hours are 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. so be especially alert for kids during those hours.
