Full moon hike, beekeeping program planned in Ansonia

ANSONIA - Join Ansonia Nature and Recreation Center Rangers Wendy and Martin at 7 p.m. March 15 for a guided full moon hike designed for all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Make use of your  night vision and other senses, and find out why the March full moon is called "the worm moon."

Back to Basics: Beekeeping for Beginners 


Join beekeeper Dawn Sotir at 1 p.m. March 22 at the Center to learn the basics to start your own bee hive.

Discover the fascinating life history of bees, and observe the queen, workers and drones inside the Nature Center's observation hive.

Fruit and nut trees depend on bees for pollination. Learn how backyard beekeepers are serving an important role in promoting the health of this essential insect.

Night hike planned at Ansonia Nature Center

ANSONIA - A white frost moon hike will be held starting at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Ansonia Nature and Recreation Center.

Park rangers Wendy and Martin will lead a trail walk by the light of the full moon.
The hike is designed for families and adults. The group will use night vision and all of their senses for this after-dark exploration.

Trees, full moon are in spotlight at nature center

ANSONIA - Two programs are on tap Jan. 26 at the Ansonia Nature and Recreation Center, 10 Deerfield Road.

At 2 p.m.  assistant director Alison Rubelmann will teach a crash course in winter botany. Learn how to identify trees by the appearance of their twigs and bark. The program promises to be both fun and educational.
The program is suitable for adults and schoolchildren as well as Scouts. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Full wolf moon hike

At 5:30 p.m. join Center staff for a full moon wolf hike (weather permitting).
If you have never hiked the nature center trails on a cold, crisp night with a full moon overhead, you're in for a memorable experience.

Hike by the light of the moon and if there is snow, look for animal tracks, and listen to the sounds of park wildlife.
Dress for cold weather and walking on uneven terrain. Children must be with an adult. Enrollment is limited.
