Visitors from China welcomed at school in Ansonia

ANSONIA - Emmett O'Brien Technical High School staff and students hosted a visit Friday by six educators from Guizhou, China.
It was interesting to observe the group as they toured the tech school. They took a lot of photos and asked a lot of questions.
They were accompanied by two translators. 

Culinary department seniors Samantha Castro of Ansonia and Tylor Belco of Shelton seen Friday morning in the school library as they await the visitors' arrival. Their class created the fruit tray presentation and Belco baked the blueberry muffins.

In return, school staff gave the visitors T-shirts, book bags, starfish, and a framed story about starfish (above).

Museum educators sought at Shelton History Center

SHELTON - The Shelton History Center is seeking volunteers interested in serving as museum educators or tour guides. 

Training sessions will be held from 1-3 p.m. April 7, 14, and 28 at the Shelton History Center, 70 Ripton Road.
No experience necessary; training is provided to those willing to share their knowledge and enthusiasm. 

Shelton history, museum teaching techniques, and communication skills will be some of the topics covered. Each week's session will build on previous lessons.

State recognizes Seymour educators

SEYMOUR - Teachers at Bungay Elementary School and Chatfield-LoPresti Elementary School recently were recognized along with administrators Mary Sue Feige, Bungay Principal, and Dave Olechna, Chatfield-LoPresti Principal, at Aqua Turf in Southington.

The Elementary Curriculum Leadership Team from both Bungay School and Chatfield-LoPresti is comprised of representatives from each grade level as well as specialists.
The goals of the team are to communicate and collaborate with each other to produce and develop core lessons and strategies aligned to the Common Core. 
The team is implementing, refining and continuing to share best practices with colleagues throughout the district as a means of increasing student achievement for all students. 

This group of dedicated individuals exceeds the standard through their tireless efforts by reflecting, evaluating, and refining their work. 
They are receptive to ongoing group feedback, reflection, and possible solutions. The success of the curriculum leadership team includes dedicated individuals who strive to educate and inspire all students, to enrich the experiences of our students, and to prepare our students to meet the challenges of an ever changing world.

Award recipients were: Mary Lavoie, Darlene O'Callaghan, Andrea Lund-Teixeira, Kathleen Riordan, Nicole Gardner, Gina, Kindt, Meghan McDonough, Angelique McAuliffe, Stefanie Slie, Gina Wendlandt, Joan McCasland, Lisa Heneghan, Meghan Goletz, Kristen Ramadon, Jara Ciocca, David Fleming and Allison Cunningham.

The Connecticut Association of Schools publicly acknowledges the outstanding work of teachers and staff for the contributions they have made to schools across the state. 
CAS thanks all of the teachers and staffs for sharing their time, talents, and commitment to providing quality education in their schools. 

Kevin Hogan, News Bureau Chief for WFSB served as Master of Ceremonies, and Karissa Niehoff, CAS Executive Director, gave the welcoming for the event.

TEAM to host workshop today for parents, educators

    ANSONIA - TEAM Family Resource Center will host a workshop, “Attacks & Children - Information for Parents, Caregivers, & Educators” at 5:30 p.m. today at TEAM Early Education, Inc., 80 Howard Ave.
    Speaker will be Cindy Rzasa Bess, a developmental psychologist. The workshop will be 90 minutes.
