Water company plans project in Seymour

BRIDGEPORT - Aquarion Water Co. today announced a water main cleaning and relining project on Silvermine Road in Seymour.

Scheduled to begin Sept. 16, the work is expected to be completed in six to eight weeks.
During this project, existing water mains will be taken out of service and temporary above ground water lines and fire hydrants will be installed in the roadway shoulders to serve customers.  Short scheduled water outages will occur when customers are connected to temporary water lines, and again when customers are reconnected to the newly lined water main.
Due to construction, customer should expect minor traffic delays and detours during the working hours of 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
“We greatly appreciate residents’ patience during this project,” said George Logan, Aquarion’s Director of Engineering & Planning.  “We will work closely with our customers, contractors and local officials to coordinate the work and minimize disruption.”
John J. Brennan Construction, Luch’s Consulting Engineers, and Heitkamp, Inc. were chosen as contractors for this water main relining project.

"We are attempting to maintain pressure and provide adequate volume of water supply to the areas north of this intersection via two temporary modifications to the distribution system in this immediate area. Please note that there may be reduced pressure and volume in the affected area despite these modifications. Both Ansonia and Seymour Fire Departments have been notified.

"Specific customers impacted are those residing on the following streets; Wakelee Avenue north of Franklin and Great Hill Rd in Ansonia and Great Hill Rd/Fountain Lake Rd, Derby Ave, Bungay Rd, Brookdale Rd and Ansmour Rd in Seymour.

"The time needed to repair the failed main and for full service restoration are unknown at this time as existing conditions are being identified."

Water main break in Seymour fixed, but road problems continue

SEYMOUR — A water main that broke on Bungay Road at about 7 p.m. Thursday has been repaired, but it caused traffic detours overnight and into this morning.

Police spokesman Lt. Paul Satkowski said, as of 10:40 a.m. today, the roadway was still closed but crews hoped to have it reopened by noon when nearby Seymour High School dismisses on an abbreviated day schedule.

The closure on Bungay Road is between West Church Street and Bungay Terrace.

“Public Works was called out last night to sand and salt the road,” he said. “Obviously, any water on the roadway turned to ice.”
Bungay Elementary School and Seymour High School are in session, Satkowski said.
