Open House at Shelton's Wesley Village

SHELTON - Join us for an Independent Living and Memory Care Open House at Wesley Village on Sunday, April 3^rd, from 1:00 – 3:00 pm.

 

Tours will be available at Wesley Heights Independent Living Cottages and Lifestyle Transitions Memory Care. Both communities are located on the Wesley Village Senior Living Campus at 580 Long Hill Avenue in Shelton.

 

Wesley Heights Cottages are Independent Living market rate cottage rentals. All cottages offer one-floor living.  Monthly market rental rates apply. Cottages are available for $1,992/month, with limited availability. (For all cottage tours, please enter through Wesley Heights Assisted Living Community.)

 

Lifestyle Transitions offers Specialized Assisted Living & Memory Support options, with a unique design that allows for maximized independence throughout transitions of care. Options include a variety of apartment styles for individuals and/or couples. (Lifestyle Transitions is located in the Northwest Wing of Wesley Heights Assisted Living Community; please use Wesley Heights main entrance for all tours.)

Barnum Festival royal court visits Shelton health facilities

SHELTON - The residents of Bishop Wicke Health and Rehabilitation Center, Wesley Heights, and Crosby Commons Assisted Living communities in Shelton enjoyed a visit recently from the Barnum Festival Road Show.

Ringmaster John Stafstrom and his royal court led the parade of clowns, musicians and volunteers, who shook hands with residents and entertained them with music and dancing.

The following residents were honored as Honorary Ringmasters of the 2013 Barnum Festival: Anna May Finnucan from Crosby Commons and Anna Kripinger from Wesley Heights, both 99, and Frank Spada from Bishop Wicke Health and Rehabilitation Center, 89.

Employees at Shelton health facility work on wellness

Lifestyle changes inspire others
SHELTON - The staff at Bishop Wicke Health and Rehabilitation Center, Crosby Commons Assisted Living, and Wesley Heights Independent and Assisted Living communities have maintained their new year’s resolution all the way into June.


As part of the facility's wellness initiative, a core group of 19 staff have shed a total of 281.2 pounds in the last 12 weeks.

Weight Watchers groups were held on the Wesley Village campus over the last 12 weeks and this group of staff took part in weekly classes on the campus, at neighboring sites and online. 
Having access to the beautiful walking paths on the Wesley Village campus helped motivate staff to walk before and after work, and during break times. 
Many staff members now take the few extra minutes to walk the distances between buildings for meetings (instead of hopping in their cars), or grab one of the retro pink or turquoise bikes to commute between the communities.

Next up is round two of Weight Watchers. After 12 weeks, the changes in eating habits and lifestyle have begun to take hold.  Many participants of the first group plan to take part and many new employees are inspired to join.  

Congratulations to all who participated! Your dedication to a "healthier you” serves as an inspiration to us all.

Shelton resident wins honor from Valley United Way

SHELTON - Wesley Heights resident Carol Osgood recently received the Living Treasure (65+) award from the Volunteer Center of Valley United Way, "Celebrating People in Action." 
The award was presented at the Valley United Way office in Shelton.

Carol and her husband, Doug, have lived at Wesley Heights for four years and from the day she moved in became an active member of the Wesley Village community.  

Carol volunteers at the Bishop Wicke Health and Rehabilitation Center café, is a personal shopper for residents, fills in at the Wellness Center, plays piano for the residents at Bishop Wicke, Wesley Heights and Crosby Commons Assisted Living communities and accompanies the Wesley Heights chorus. She recently initiated a program at Wesley Heights where the residents gathered and sewed sleeping bags for the homeless.

Carol recently developed a new program for the residents at Wesley Heights called, "Songs at Eventide" that provide a source of inspiration and fellowship for the residents while reinforcing the bonds that tie the community together.

Her huge heart is always there when you need her, and she goes above and beyond for all residents on the Wesley Village campus.

Residents enjoy dance program at Wesley Heights

SHELTON - Residents at Wesley Heights, an independent and assisted-living community at 580 Long Hill Ave., enjoy a wide range of health and wellness activities and programs.

One program that has become a favorite is “Dance Around the World” with dancer, Gia Khalsa.

Residents sway to gentle strains of Hawaii, stomp their feet to American West tunes, replicate rhythmic drumming from Africa, and shimmy to exotic strains from the Middle East.

Through this program, residents keep fit through movement, learn about other cultures, and have fun with their peers in the process.
