SEYMOUR - Landmark Theatre presents a children’s holiday classic, Frosty The Snowman, Live on Stage at The Strand Theater in Seymour, CT.

Frosty the Snowman has all the charm of the beloved children’s tale and holiday song brought to life on stage!  Follow the comic antics of Frosty, a snowman that come to life when the village children place a magic top hat on his head.  The song: Frosty the Snowman, a Holiday favorite, occurs throughout the play.

 

Frosty the Snowman is a perfect first or early live theater experience for young children. The show is fast paced with music, dance and audience participation.  Children are invited to stay after the show to meet the characters and take photos. 

 

This program brings veteran actors, directors, musicians and choreographers together to participate with eager and talented youth to present theatre for young audiences.  Frosty the Snowman offers natural casting of both adults and children to tell the story that was made a holiday staple with the 1969 animated Christmas family television special on CBS. 

The program will open with The Sunshine Road Show and will include an interactive holiday sing-along lead by entertainer David Verdosci. Children will be invited to participate in familiar holiday tunes!  David Verdosci and the Sunshine Road Show has been touring for over 15 years.  Their belief is in the power that music has on children’s well being.  They have devoted their creativity to developing music that is encouraging, interactive and of course fun!

The cast for Frosty the Snowman includes LCT executive director, Jeffrey Dunn as Frosty, Blaise Russo of Thomaston as Professor Hinkle, veteran performer Brock Putnam of Litchfield as Santa Claus and Jaylee Lewis of Thomaston as Karen.  The show is directed and choreographed by Caitlin Barra.

Auditions planned for talent show in Seymour

Event to benefit Friends of Fisher House

SEYMOUR - The Knights of Columbus Aurora Council #53 will host a “Talent Show to Support Veterans” Sept. 20 and 21 at the Strand Theater, 165 Main St.,
The show will benefit the Friends of Fisher House Connecticut. 

   
This local chapter of the national organization, Fisher House Foundation, is raising funds to construct a house on the property of the VA Medical Center in West Haven to provide housing to families of veterans going into the hospital. 

At this time, auditions for the show are being accepted via e-mail at fhtalentshow@gmail.com. Auditions will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. 
Talent of all ages is welcome to audition.

Book swap slated in Seymour May 19

SEYMOUR - The  Seymour Lions Club and the Seymour Culture and Arts Commission will sponsor a Meet and Greet Book Swap from 1-3 p.m. May 19 at the Strand Theater, 165 Main St.

Bring any books you no longer want and replace them from the selection of books received. Encyclopedias will not be accepted.
 
The event will feature author Anthony Paolucci who will read from his book, "Greedy Guts."
He will be selling and signing his books as well.

Come out and meet the people from the community.
Leftover books will be donated to various organizations.

'Burlesque 2.0h' show to benefit Seymour theater restoration

SEYMOUR - Flirty, not dirty.

That's how Meghan Tarby is describing "Burlesque 2.0h" to be staged this weekend at the Strand Theater, 165 Main St.

Tarby's company, Looking Glass Events, LLC will present the show Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to benefit the Strand Theater Restoration Project.


Tarby writes: "This flirty, not dirty, vaudeville variety show is the second installment of Strand Theater Burlesque, which began in 2011 with three sold out performances of America the Beautiful: A Modern Burlesque Performance.

"That show raised $10,000 for the restoration of the theater's historic marquee. If you come to this weekend's show, you can see the progress from that project, which is nearly complete!"

This year's show features an all-volunteer cast, with special guest appearances by burlesque dancer, Dot Mitzvah;  First Selectman Kurt Miller; and the Society of American Magicians #127.

In addition to the ensemble dance numbers, there will be comedy, magic, and much more.

Each performance features a cocktail hour immediately following. Friday night's performance begins at 8 p.m.; doors open at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday night's performance is at 8 p.m., doors open at 7:30 p.m., and the cocktail hour is hosted by The Original Antonio's Restaurant in Ansonia. Both of these shows are nearly sold out.

Sunday's performance is at 6 p.m.; doors open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 each and include food and two beverages during cocktail hour.

All profits benefit the Strand Theater Restoration Fund.

On Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m., Looking Glass Events presents "Never, Ever After," a live musical comedy at the Strand Theater, to benefit the Theater Restoration Project. 

This production, written and directed by Meg Tarby and Kathie Vrlik, features 1/2 dozen or more fractured fairy tales, narrated by the Hatter. The show is appropriate for all ages.

Tickets are $15 for ages 11 and up, $7.50 for ages 10 and under and are available at the following locations: Seymour Town Hall (Tuesday-Thursday), the Mad Hatter Boutique (Wednesday-Friday), at the door, or by calling 203-400-4625.  

The show stars Sam Cournoyer, 14, of Seymour, as the Hatter; Dawn LaLlave, 28, of Brooklyn, N.Y. as the Wicked Queen; Jess Gagne, 14, of Seymour, as Snow; and a supporting cast of more than 10 Valley residents. 

Other credits include Marissa Tkacz, ensemble choreographer, from Aimee's Academy of Dance in Seymour; Aidan Vrlik, 13, of Seymour, musical director; and students from Bethwood Suzuki Music School in Seymour.

    SEYMOUR - Looking Glass Events, LLC presents “Never Ever After,” a group of more than a half-dozen fractured fairy tales, at 7:30 p.m. June 1 and 1 p.m. June 2 at the Strand Theater, 165 Main St.
    Doors open a half-hour before the performances.
    The fairy tales will be narrated by “the Mad Hatter.” The show is written and directed by Meg Tarby and Kathie Vrlik.
    Tickets are $10 for ages 11 and up; $7.50 for ages 10 and under.
