DERBY - Get a head start on Mother's Day by bringing your mother, daughter and perhaps your granddaughter to a
Tea Party from 2 to 4 p.m. May 5 in the Dining Room at Griffin Hospital, 130 Division St.
Hosted by members of the
Valley Women's Health Initiative, the Tea Party will benefit the
Griffin Hospital Valley Breast Health Care Fund.
It is open to all: Men
and women, wives and husbands; mothers, daughters and granddaughters.
A sophisticated assortment of savories will be served. There will be a
contest for the “best” hat along with a variety of door and raffle
prizes.

This year’s event is co-chaired by Pat Tarasovic and Kate Cosgrove.
The Valley Women's Health Initiative is comprised of members of the
community working toward a common goal of addressing and improving
women's health issues including breast cancer awareness and heart
disease.
Established in 2001 to ensure that no person,
regardless of age or socio-economic condition, is denied screening
mammograms or diagnostic testing for breast cancer, committee members
include co-chairs Kate Cosgrove and Dr. Stephanie Wain; Daun Barrett,
Jack Betkoski, Carey Carpino, Dolores Chew, Karen
Cusick, Dorothy Gandy, Elizabeth Johnson, Lauren Kazzi, Denise Kulas,
Peggy Marlowe, Michelle Moore, Connie Nunez, Robin Smith, Mia Talamelli,
Pat Tarasovic, and Mariann Vallillo.
The group also sponsors an Annual
Women Making A Difference Tribute and Fundraiser
each October in conjunction with National Breast Cancer Awareness
Month.

Mother's Day craft program planned at Derby library
DERBY - An after school Mother’s Day craft program will be held at 3:45 p.m. May 7 at Derby Public Library for children in kindergarten through Grade 4.
Be creative and make a card for mom along with a special surprise for Mother’s Day.
All materials will be supplied; there is no fee to attend.

Ansonia's Redwing Pond House to host spring fair
ANSONIA - Families are invited to celebrate nature and get a unique gift for mom at the 2nd
Annual Redwing Pond House Preschool Spring Fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 11.
Held
at the Redwing Pond House Preschool, 21 Milan St., the
Fair will feature a Mother’s Day flower and
plant sale, wild animal exhibitions, games for children of all ages, a
visit from “Mother Nature,” arts and crafts, and raffles.
Opened in January 2012, The Redwing Pond House is a nature-based preschool at the Ansonia Nature Center that focuses on developing the whole child, promoting growth in cognitive, physical, social, emotional, and creative development through interactions with the natural world.
The fair will be an opportunity for parents to see the preschool and meet the teachers.

Get a gift for mom and help St. Mary Church at the same time
DERBY - St. Mary Church, 212 Elizabeth St., presents "Afternoon Delights Craft and Exhibition Show" from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Admission is $10 a person. Proceeds benefit St. Mary Church. Price includes raffle ticket, light refreshments, and live entertainment by Marc Garofalo.
There will be 20 vendors selling specialty items for Mother's Day. Items will include: bags, china, crystal, flowers, jewelry, homemade rosary beads, plants, long-stemmed roses, silk arrangements, crocheted items, nutritional products, specialty teas and tea sets, soaps, and specialty medical bracelets.For information call the church, 203-735-3341.
