Church in Seymour to host lobster take-out dinner

          SEYMOUR - Great Hill United Methodist Church will host a Lobster Take-Out Only Dinner from 4-7 p.m. Aug. 30.    
          A 1-1/4 lb. steamed lobster, baked potato, ear of corn, cole slaw, and large homemade cookie will be ready for pickup for $20. A single dinner with two lobsters is offered for $30.

          All proceeds to benefit the church Mission Ministry Budget.

Seymour church to hold BBQ dinner



SEYMOUR - A Chicken or Ribs Bar-B-Que Dinner will be held from 5-7 p.m. July 26 at Great Hill United Methodist Church, 225 Great Hill Road.

The menu will include choice of chicken or ribs, coleslaw, baked beans, dessert and beverage. The price per dinner for adults is $12 and $6 for children (8 and under). 
Take-out meals also will be available.

Seymour church to host 'Touch-A-Truck' event

SEYMOUR - The sixth annual “Touch-A-Truck” event will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. June 21 at  Great Hill United Methodist Church, 225 Great Hill Road at the junction of Rts 334 and 188.

This year’s event will feature a series of kids summer festival activities including tractor rides, face painting, games and giveaways,an indoor book sale, and Great Hill’s famous Home Bake Sale. Snacks and beverages also will be for sale.

Trucks/vehicles will be on display to view and/or be climbed on by both children and the young-at-heart adults.  
One of the highlights will be the return of the “Bobcat and Hook” which will provide youngsters with an opportunity to watch it actually move some small logs.  
A variety of vehicles and trucks will be exhibited  and youngsters will have an opportunity to sit in, walk in, and converse with the vehicle operators including a fire truck, antique postal van, school bus, FedX delivery van, police vehicle, large tow truck, a military vehicle, and many more.
Returning this year is the Griffin Hospital van and “Smoke House” which will be used to demonstrate the importance of fire safety.

Admission to the Touch-A-Truck area was kept at $3 for children in an effort to attract as many youngsters as possible. Adults accompanying children are admitted free.

This event will provide a variety of activities for families and children of all ages.  
Proceeds from this event will help fund Great Hill’s Mission and Outreach activities.

Seymour church to present musical drama

SEYMOUR - Great Hill United Methodist Church will present the musical drama “Acts of the Sinners’ Parade ” at 7 p.m. May 31 and at 2 p.m. June 1.
           There will be a free pasta dinner at 6 p.m. May 31, followed by the performance at 7 p.m.    

This is the third in the Sinners’ Parade trilogy.  
It stands by itself, as it concludes the chaotic events from Christ’s journey to the cross, through His resurrection and birth of the Church, as seen through the eyes of our fictitious faith seekers Channah and  Baruch. 

Presented by the Great Hill Drama Team, written by Spike Jones and directed by Yashu Putorti, the drama features original music by Barbara Zanowiak and songs by Bette and Shelb Lanaro.
 
There is no charge for this event; however a free will offering will be taken.

Church in Seymour offers scholarship

SEYMOUR - The Great Hill United Methodist Church Board of Trustees has announced that applications are now available for the McKane Scholarship for 2014. 

The scholarship has been given annually since 1968 and is in memory of Peter Hall McKane who died tragically at the age of 18 in an automobile accident and his brother, Paul Archer McKane, who died in 2003 from cancer.



The scholarship fund was endowed by the McKane family, friends and church members.
This year a scholarship award of $1,000 will be given to a graduating high school student from Seymour or Oxford, who has been accepted and plans to attend a college, university or other institute of higher learning. Selection criteria includes financial need, personal effort, individual goals reflecting a degree of determination, and academic achievement.

Church to take part in Seymour tag sale

SEYMOUR - Great Hill United Methodist Church will participate in the Seymour Town-Wide Tag Sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 3. Rain date is May 10.  

In addition to the church’s tag sale table, several church members will have tables. 


Proceeds will be used to fund several of the church’s mission projects.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Nina Poeta Strong Committee will sell light lunch items.
All funds raised will go to help defray Nina Poeta's medical expenses. Nina is a Seymour High School student battling cancer.

Church in Seymour to sponsor 'Way of the Cross' program

SEYMOUR - Great Hill United Methodist Church will again sponsor an interpretive meditation center based on “The Way of the Cross.”

This program is based on 13 scripture readings from the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. 

The 12 stations represent Jesus’ journey to the Cross from his arrest, trial, persecution, death, and finally, the empty tomb. 

The meditation center features a series of displays, based on each of the readings. 
Visitors will receive a guide booklet of scriptures. 
They will proceed through the exhibits, reading the scriptures, viewing images or objects which reflect the theme of the scripture, and reading a series of personal meditation questions in the booklet. 
A meditation area allows time for reflection while soft music plays. 

The program is free and open to the public in the Educational Building at the church, 225 Great Hill Road. 
Doors open 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and 4-8 pm April 14; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. April 15; 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4-8 p.m. April 16; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 17, Maundy Thursday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 18, Good Friday.

Area residents are invited to experience this journey through “The Stations of the Cross.”

Seymour church to hold Christmas craft fair

SEYMOUR  - For those looking to begin their Christmas shopping in the true spirit of this joyous celebration, Great Hill United Methodist Church, 225 Great Hill Road, will present its eighth annual “Christmas on the Hill” craft vendor fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Crafts for sale in the Fellowship Hall will include American Girl Doll clothes, hot relishes, fleece blankets, rag dolls, pet accessories, children’s and adult’s knitted and crocheted items, themed wreaths, Christmas centerpieces, and jewelry.

Coffee and doughnuts will be available from 9-11 a.m.
and homemade soups and chili will be served 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Homemade breads, cookies, cakes, and pies will be for sale throughout the day.

'Christmas on the Hill' fair planned in Seymour

SEYMOUR - Great Hill United Methodist Church will present its eighth annual
“Christmas on the Hill” craft vendor fair from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 9 in Fellowship Hall, 225 Great Hill Road.

Crafts will include lighted bottles, children’s crocheted items, wreaths, stained glass, pocketbooks, jewelry, as well as pre-teen crafters offering youth-oriented crafts. All items are handcrafted.

Coffee and doughnuts will be available from 9-11 a.m., and homemade soups and chili will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. 
The church will also sell home baked breads, cookies, cakes, and pies throughout the day.

Seymour church seeks crafters for annual fair


SEYMOUR - Great Hill United Methodist Church is seeking crafters for its 2013  “Christmas on the Hill” craft fair Nov. 9.
The fair will run from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall, 225 Great Hill Road.

An eight-foot by six-foot space will cost $35 and a limited number of spaces will have access to electrical outlets.
Table rentals (six-foot) are available for $5 each.

Seymour church to hold basket bonanza

SEYMOUR - Great Hill United Methodist Church will sponsor its annual Basket
Bonanza Oct. 5. 
           The evening of fun and entertainment will begin with a preview of the baskets from 5-6 p.m.
           During the preview hour, tickets are placed in the cup corresponding with any basket; the baskets are given away starting at 6 p.m. 
           More than 75 special theme baskets and door prizes will be handed out.

         For the admission price of $15, hot and cold hors d’oeuvres, desserts, and beverages will be served and patrons will receive 25 free basket tickets, a door prize ticket and a grand prize ticket.  
          Children age 10 and under admitted free. Basket themes include movie, travel, spa, handyman, entertaining, sports, kids, baby, pets, hobbies, cooking, seasonal, and many others.
 This year’s Grand Prize Basket will include a wide variety of gift cards with an estimated $500 value.

SEYMOUR - Great Hill United Methodist Church, 225 Great Hill Road, invites all to join us at 10:45 a.m. Oct. 13 as we celebrate our pets.
