O'Brien principal among educators honored

Emmett O’Brien Technical High School, Ansonia Principal Laurie Le Bouthillier is pictured standing, far right, with Kim Weidler, Cathy Marganski, Sarah Molnar, Vickie Brai, and Angela Kane as they were honored March 11 at the Connecticut Association of Schools Volunteer Banquet at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington.
CAS celebrates this event annually to publicly acknowledge the work of parents and other volunteers for their contributions to schools across the state. 
More than 550 participants from 78 elementary, middle and high schools were treated to a four-course meal and were entertained by pianist Kim Quinn from Albert D. Griswold Middle School in Rocky Hill. 


Honorees were presented with plaques and corsages to commemorate their service.
John Maziarz, Commercial Sales Account Manager for Connecticut Natural Gas and a volunteer for Junior Achievement, was keynote speaker. 
Maziarz said, “Volunteers are the silent heroes of our schools.” He also said “… they may be silent in what they do, but their impact is great.”

State recognizes Seymour educators

SEYMOUR - Teachers at Bungay Elementary School and Chatfield-LoPresti Elementary School recently were recognized along with administrators Mary Sue Feige, Bungay Principal, and Dave Olechna, Chatfield-LoPresti Principal, at Aqua Turf in Southington.


The Elementary Curriculum Leadership Team from both Bungay School and Chatfield-LoPresti is comprised of representatives from each grade level as well as specialists.

The goals of the team are to communicate and collaborate with each other to produce and develop core lessons and strategies aligned to the Common Core. 
The team is implementing, refining and continuing to share best practices with colleagues throughout the district as a means of increasing student achievement for all students. 

This group of dedicated individuals exceeds the standard through their tireless efforts by reflecting, evaluating, and refining their work. 
They are receptive to ongoing group feedback, reflection, and possible solutions. The success of the curriculum leadership team includes dedicated individuals who strive to educate and inspire all students, to enrich the experiences of our students, and to prepare our students to meet the challenges of an ever changing world.

Award recipients were: Mary Lavoie, Darlene O'Callaghan, Andrea Lund-Teixeira, Kathleen Riordan, Nicole Gardner, Gina, Kindt, Meghan McDonough, Angelique McAuliffe, Stefanie Slie, Gina Wendlandt, Joan McCasland, Lisa Heneghan, Meghan Goletz, Kristen Ramadon, Jara Ciocca, David Fleming and Allison Cunningham.

The Connecticut Association of Schools publicly acknowledges the outstanding work of teachers and staff for the contributions they have made to schools across the state. 

CAS thanks all of the teachers and staffs for sharing their time, talents, and commitment to providing quality education in their schools. 

Kevin Hogan, News Bureau Chief for WFSB served as Master of Ceremonies, and Karissa Niehoff, CAS Executive Director, gave the welcoming for the event. 

She said, "At CAS, we believe recognition of excellence is so important, not only to highlight outstanding individuals and school teams, but also to promote best practices and to encourage others to strive for excellence-to follow your example on their own path to excellence. So CAS is recognizing you, our honorees, not so much for being "excellent people" and "excellent schools" but more for being "people of excellence" and "schools of excellence."
Congratulations again, for all that you have already accomplished, and for the great work, the excellence, that you are continuing to inspire!

2 honored for oustanding service to school

St. Mary-St. Michael School Principal Linda Coppola joins honorees Jim Foley, left, of Ansonia, and Mike Orazietti of Derby, at the 35th anniversary HOPES (Help Our Parish Elementary Schools) Dinner sponsored by the Office of Catholic Schools, Archdiocese of Hartford. 
The event was held in September at the Aqua Turf Club, Southington. The gathering of more than 530 included pastors, principals, and volunteer leaders representing several school constituencies – parents, grandparents, past parents, alumni, and friends.

Ninety-nine representatives from 46 schools were honored with the 2012 St. John Neumann Award for Volunteer Service, in recognition of outstanding service to Catholic education at the parish school level.
