Seymour High School Student Attends Boys State

SEYMOUR= Daniel Robinson, a student at Seymour High School, recently joined 215 outstanding juniors from high schools across the state for the 74th annual American Legion Boys State program. Daniel was a very active participant and contributor to the program. He was elected to a leadership position in the Boys State Senate, and was the recipient of the Harry Bartlett Award because of his hard work in that body. Based on his excellent overall performance, Daniel was selected as the first alternate to the American Legion Boys Nation program in Washington, DC. While Daniel was unable to attend that program, his selection as an alternate is a recognition of the outstanding job he did throughout the week of the Boys State program, which took place the last week of June at Eastern Connecticut State University. Daniel recently paid a visit to the town's Emil Senger American Legion Post 10 headquarters to discuss the experience.

Derby High students to attend Boys, Girls State at ECSU

The American Legion Boy’s State and American Legion Auxiliary Laurel Girl’s State program is being held at Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic this month.

These programs provide an opportunity for students to learn about the democratic process by forming their own party, establishing a party platform and electing city, town, and state officials. 
This is a great experience for students interested in government.

Derby students selected for Boys, Girls State

DERBY - The American Legion Boys State and American Legion Auxiliary Laurel Girls State program is being held at Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic in June.

These programs provide an opportunity for students to learn about the democratic process by forming their own party, establishing a party platform and electing city, town and state officials.
It is a great experience for students interested in government.

Ansonia teen attends Boys State

    American Legion Post 50 in Ansonia submitted Patrick Coyle of Ansonia as its high school candidate for the 2012 Boys State Leadership Seminar held last week at Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic.

     He performed governmental jobs and held different responsibilities throughout the week. 

    Following a week’s worth of practical setting, he was awarded one of the highest awards, "the American Citizenship Medal," for his achievements throughout the week and for his personal life experiences.

    Coyle continues to volunteer in many veterans' groups and maintains a 4.0 grade point average at Emmett O’Brien Technical High School in Ansonia, where he will be a senior in the fall. Coyle is applying to military academies for his post-secondary education.
