Police in Shelton search for stolen gun

SHELTON >> Police are searching for a semiautomatic handgun stolen from a car parked outside Lincoln Technical Institute, 8 Progress Drive, Lt. Robert Kozlowsky said in a release Tuesday.

At about 10 a.m. Tuesday police were called by a 38-year old student at the school who said he left a firearm in the vehicle when he parked it.
The complainant said the firearm was hidden inside the vehicle, police said.
The student said he went to his car during a break and noticed the vehicle window was smashed and the firearm was stolen.

Police searched the surrounding area but were unable to locate the firearm, Kozlowsky said.
Students were dismissed by school administrators, he said.

Vandals heavily damage Shelton's St. Margaret Mary Church

SHELTON — Police are investigating vandalism to the inside and outside of St. Margaret Mary Church, discovered early Monday, police said in a press release.

Police were called to the church at 380 Long Hill Ave. at about 6:30 a.m. on a report of vandalism.
Police discovered extensive damage to the inside of the church, including several religious statues that were smashed, police said. Outdoor statues were smashed as well.

Two vehicles in the lot were also vandalized.

Shelton Police release identity of 92-year-old man in fatal crash

SHELTON — Police Tuesday afternoon released the identity of a 92-year-old man who died from injuries he sustained Monday morning in a motor vehicle accident.

Robert Bartram, 92, was exiting a driveway onto Walnut Tree Hill Road when the Honda he was driving collided with a Mazda driven by Julie Hall, 24, of Shelton, Lt. Robert Kozlowsky said in a release.

Hall received minor injuries.

The accident occurred at about 9:30 a.m. Monday on Walnut Tree Hill Road near Short Street.
The Fire Department and EMS were also sent because it was reported that one person was unable to get out of the vehicle due to the damage to the door, Kozlowsky said.

Kozlowsky said Bartram was extricated from his vehicle and did not have any visible injuries. He was conscious and communicating with personnel at scene, but was transported to the hospital after complaining of chest pain.

The Shelton Police Traffic Division Reconstruction Team is still investigating the motor vehicle accident, Kozlowsky said Tuesday.

Shelton man, 92, dies from injuries in early morning two-car crash



SHELTON — A 92-year old city man has died as a result of injuries he received this morning in a collision on Walnut Tree Hill Road, Lt. Robert Kozlowsky said in a release.

At about 9:30 a.m. today police responded to Walnut Tree Hill Road near Short Street for a two-car accident.

The Fire Department and EMS were also sent because it was reported that one person was unable to get out of the vehicle due to the damage to the door, Kozlowsky said.

Shelton Police, Fire, and EMS responded to the scene. The driver of a Honda, a 92-year old resident, was extricated from his vehicle.
Kozlowsky said he did not have any visible injuries and he was conscious and communicating with personnel at scene, but was transported to the hospital after complaining of chest pain.

The driver of the Mazda, a 24-year old Shelton resident, claimed minor injuries from the accident.

An initial police investigation revealed the driver of the Honda was exiting a driveway when his vehicle collided with a Mazda traveling north on Walnut Tree Hill Road.

Police later learned that the driver of the Honda succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, the release said.

The Shelton Police Traffic Division Reconstruction Team is investigating the accident. Any witnesses or persons with additional information are asked to call the Shelton Police Traffic Division, 203- 924-1544.

Shelton Police, restaurant team to collect toys

SHELTON - The Shelton Police Department has teamed up with Outback Steakhouse of Shelton for an annual toy drive. 
People are asked to bring new, unwrapped toys that will be distributed to local families in need. 
The toys can be dropped off at the Shelton Police Department, 85 Wheeler St., or Outback Steakhouse, 698 Bridgeport Ave. All toys must be received by Dec. 19.
Outback Steakhouse of Shelton is giving away a free appetizer or dessert to any customer who brings in a new, unwrapped toy to the restaurant by Dec. 19 for the drive.
