'28 Days of Diapers' initiative kicks off

SEYMOUR >> Connecticut Partnership for Children's second annual “28 Days of Diapers” initiative is now underway through March 5.

This is a month-long initiative to raise Diaper Need Awareness in the state. During this time, there are many ways to get involved, including running a diaper drive of your own for the agency’s Valley Diaper Bank. Gather your friends, family, co-workers, or community group and collect baby diapers and wipes.

All donations can be dropped at the agency office March 5 during their 6th Birthday Open House. The Connecticut Partnership is located in Downtown Seymour at 141 Main St., Bank Street entrance. The birthday open house will run from noon to 8 p.m., and refreshments will be served. All are invited to stop by and learn more about the agency and its programs.

At the end of the “28 Days,” Colonial Tavern in Oxford will be hosting the agency’s annual winter fundraiser, The Dave Reilly Comedy Adventure featuring Gary Pettinella. The event will be held on Friday, March 6, doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person, or $210 for a table of ten, $240 for a table of 12. Tickets are selling quickly and likely will not be available at the door. Appetizers and desserts will be served, cash bar with drink specials. This year, they are hosting the 5th Annual Thanksgiving Food Program. This program is graciously sponsored by Stop & Shop Co., Derby Walmart, Shelton Walmart, West Haven Walmart, Great Expectations Day Care & Learning Center in Southbury, Walnut Hill Community Church- Seymour Campus, and many girl and boy scout troops, individuals, and businesses throughout the state.

In 2013, the Thanksgiving Food Program served 101 families, an increase of 63 families from the previous year. Connecticut Partnership's goal is to serve 150 families this year. The agency provides the turkey, and asks for the non-perishable fixings from individual and business sponsors and donors. Donors have two options: sponsor a family or run a food drive. Meal distribution occurs on Saturday, November 22nd; therefore, the deadline for items to be delivered to the agency is Monday, November 17th.

To help supplement this program, on Wednesday, Nov. 12, CTPFC will be stationed outside of Seymour Stop & Shop from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. collecting non-perishable items. These items include boxed stuffing mix, cranberry sauce, corn, green beans, gravy, tomato or mushroom soup, sweet potatoes or yams, rolls or bread, biscuit mix, mashed potatoes, dessert items such as pudding or cookies, and festive paper goods are optional. If you are doing your shopping that day, or would just like to drop items off, please visit the CT Partnership booth.

These programs are graciously sponsored by Stop & Shop Co., Derby Walmart, Great Expectations Day Care & Learning Center in Southbury, St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Oxford, Walnut Hill Community Church- Seymour Campus, and many individuals and businesses throughout the state.

These items will be delivered to the children on Dec. 22-23; and therefore, must be delivered to Connecticut Partnership no later than Monday, Dec. 15.

2 diaper-themed events slated in Seymour to benefit nonprofit

SEYMOUR - Connecticut Partnership for Children will host the first-ever Diaper Dash 5K & Family Fun Run/Walk May 31, which will start and end at Seymour High School. 
This event will take place on a certified course and all participants will be timed. 

Early bird registration, $25, is extended through 11:59 p.m. Sunday (April 6).
Register before that date/time and be automatically entered to win 1) a four-pack of tickets to the current season of the Bridgeport Bluefish; 2) a four-pack of tickets to next season of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers; 3) a $25 gift certificate to the Mad Hatter Boutique in Seymour; 4) a $25 gift certificate to Hot Tamale in Seymour; or 5) four tickets to CTPFC's Breakfast with the Easter Bunny event on April 12. 

Regular registration begins Monday. Fee is $30.  

Children ages 4 and under are free in strollers. Children who are registering can use the sponsor form on the website to help "raise" their registration fee.

SEYMOUR - Connecticut Partnership for Children will celebrate its fifth birthday March 5. 
In an effort to spread the word about diaper need in the state, the agency's Valley Diaper Bank is hosting the "28 Days of Diapers" throughout the month of February. 

There are many ways to get involved in this initiative. Here are some ideas: 
1) Run a diaper drive at your agency, business, or school; 2) Ask your staff/employees to dress down in denim on a day this month, in exchange for a $5 donation or a package of diapers or wipes (ask your boss to match any monetary donations); 3) Form your team for the Diaper Dash 5K on May 31, and register now to get the early-bird rate; 4) Inquire about volunteering at our agency; 5) Refer one family, who is in need of services, to our agency; 6) Tell five friends, family members, co-workers, etc. about our mission; 7) Sponsor a child, with a commitment of six months or one year; 8) Like us at Facebook.com/ctpfc or follow us at Twitter.com/ctpfc.

As part of the "28 Days" initiative, early-bird registration has officially opened for the First Diaper Dash 5K & Family Fun Run/Walk.
This event will be held May 31 and will begin at Seymour High School. Early bird registration is $25 per participant through March 31.

Blumenthal to attend benefit in Oxford

OXFORD - U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal will make a guest appearance at Colonial Tavern's third annual Valentine event Friday to benefit Connecticut Partnership for Children, Inc., it was announced late today. 

The event will feature "Sensational Dan LaRosa & His Comedy Hypnosis Show."
Doors open at 7 p.m. F riday, and a full spread of hot and cold appetizers will be available. The show starts at 8 p.m. 

After the show, a pub menu will be available for purchase.
A cash bar will be open from 7 p.m.-midnight. 
Tickets are $25 a person or $200 per table of 10. Ticket price also includes entry to win a door prize. Tickets are available at www.ctpfc.org or at the door. Colonial Tavern is located at 24 Hawley Road, Oxford.

All proceeds benefit Connecticut Partnership for Children's Valley Diaper Bank.

SEYMOUR - Valley Diaper Bank founder Meghan Tarby, Connecticut Partnership for Children executive director, said, "We have begun repackaging diapers and branding them with our agency labels, a practice learned from The Diaper Bank in New Haven."  
Tarby founded the nonprofit Connecticut Partnership for Children in 2009.

Tarby said she and Pelegrino volunteered at The Diaper Bank as part of the United Way of Greater New Haven's 'Days of Caring.'

Oxford collects diapers, wipes for Seymour nonprofit

    OXFORD – A month-long diaper drive netted hundreds of diapers and boxes of wipes for low-income children throughout Connecticut.

     The drive was organized by town hall employee Kelly Weymer and will help parents of children aged one month to two years. 

     Weymer  turned over the diapers and wipes to Meghan Tarby, executive director and social worker for the Seymour-based Connecticut Partnership for Children Inc. Many of the diapers were donated by the community and the newly-formed Womens Club of Oxford Greens which was organized by Rosemary Samuelson, president.

   Tarby was extremely thankful for all of the donations and personally thanked Weymer and the womens club. She said that if anyone would like to do a diaper/wipe drive they can contact her at 203-881-1804. She said the diapers will go to several clients in Oxford and the Valley and to anyone else needing them. “No one is turned away,’’ said Tarby, an Oxford native.

    First Selectman George Temple said the town will continue collecting items throughout the year to help those in need. There will be a box in the foyer of town hall for anyone wanting to give.

Breakfast in Oxford to benefit nonprofit that aids children

Santa to be available for photos

OXFORD - Colonial Tavern presents the 4th Annual "Breakfast with Santa" Dec. 14 to benefit Connecticut Partnership for Children, Inc.

The event is sponsored by Great Expectations Day Care and Learning Center and will be held at Colonial Tavern, 24 Hawley Road.

There are two seatings: the first at 8:30 a.m. has plenty of tickets available, while the second at 10 a.m. has a limited number of tickets available.

Tickets are $5 per person for ages 3 and up, and children ages 2 and under are free.
Tickets may be purchased online at www.ctpfc.org or at the Mad Hatter Boutique, 5 Bank St., Seymour, or the CT Partnership office.

Ticket price includes a family style breakfast and beverages. Each family is also asked to bring a package of size 6 diapers or a package of wipes as a donation to CT Partnership's Valley Diaper Bank at 135 Main St., Seymour.
Santa will arrive on a fire truck to the 8:30 a.m. seating and will be available for families to take pictures until 11 a.m.

Seymour nonprofit seeks help to provide holiday meals

Connecticut Partnership for Children, Inc., the Valley’s first diaper bank, is running its fourth annual Thanksgiving Food Program.

Last year, this program provided complete Thanksgiving meals to 36 families throughout Connecticut.

This year, CTPFC plans to feed 50-100 families, but we need your help! 
The Partnership received a grant from Stop & Shop for $1,000, as well as several in-kind donations, including Great Expectations Day Care and Learning Center in Southbury, and the Walnut Hill Community Church Valley Campus in Seymour. 
CTPFC has estimated that it will cost approximately $25 to feed a family of four to five people.

We are asking for monetary donations from individuals and businesses, sponsorship of a family (providing non-perishable food items), and that that your group or business hosts a food drive. 

CTPFC Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization, so your donation may be tax deductible.

Zumbathon benefit planned in Oxford

OXFORD - A Zumbathon to raise funds for two Seymour-based non-profit organizations will be held at 6 p.m. Sept. 11 at Colonial Tavern, 24 Hawley Road.

The event benefits Connecticut Partnership for Children's Diaper Bank and the Emil Senger Post 10, American Legion.

The veterans will lead a moment of silence to honor those who lost their lives in the terror attacks on 9/11.

Proceeds include $10 entry fee, T-shirt sales, 50/50 raffle, bottled water sales, and donations. 
Come out and support the veterans and the children!

Doors open at 6 p.m. and the event begins at 6:30 p.m.

Food and beverages also will be available for sale.

General admission is free for children ages 4 and under; ages 5 and up are $5.

The tasting tent entry fee is $20 for 16 tastings (ages 21 and up), and $10 for 10 additional tastings. 

Pre-registration for classic cars is $8, and day-of registration is $10. Vendor space is $40 per booth, indoor or out (space is limited but there is still space available). Antiques and handmade items for vendor booths are needed.

Summer festival in Oxford to benefit organization that supports needy children

OXFORD - BAREFOOT, A Summer Festival, will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 11
at the Colonial Tavern, 24 Hawley Road.

There will be lots of fun, family-oriented activities.

Admission is $5 for ages 5 and up, and free for ages 4 and under.

There will be a flea market with a variety of vendors, as well as live music by Gravyhound and face painting by Ruth.

All proceeds will benefit the Connecticut Partnership for Children.

A classic car show (1990 model year is the cut-off) will include a burn-out pit and gift bags.
Admission is $10; $8 if you pre-register your car.

There will be local craft beer and wine tasting. Admission to the tasting tent is $20. It will be for ages 21 and up, ID required for admission.
Food and beverages will be available for purchase. The pool will be closed.

SEYMOUR - Connecticut Partnership for Children, Inc. will host its second Bi-Annual "Diaper Drive-By" April 6 to benefit the agency's diaper bank at 135 Main St. 

As part of "The Big Event," a nationwide day of service for college students, a group of Quinnipiac University students will be volunteering to collect diapers. 

In addition, members of the Walnut Hill Community Church's (Strand Theater Campus) Middle School Youth Group will be volunteering at this event.
The concept of the "Diaper Drive-By" is members of the community who wish to donate to the diaper bank, can purchase diapers or wipes on their own time, and drive up to the building's "Loading Zone" at 135 Main St., between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. April 6, dropping their donation with a student volunteer.  

At this time, the diaper bank is especially seeking donations of diapers sizes 4 and 5, but appreciates any assistance the community can provide. 
All packages must be new and unopened. 
The diaper bank will provide services to any qualifying family throughout Connecticut, and is an ongoing program throughout the year.

Easter Bunny to star at benefit breakfast in Oxford

Event to help needy children

OXFORD - Colonial Tavern in Oxford will host "Breakfast with the Easter Bunny" March 23 to benefit Connecticut Partnership for Children, a 501(c)(3) organization located in Seymour.
This is the second year the event is being held.

The cost is $5 per person, ages 3 and up. Children age 2 and under are free. Guests are asked to bring one package of new, unopened diapers or wipes per family (sizes 4 and 5 are much appreciated).  

There are no costs associated with this event and all proceeds go directly to the Connecticut Partnership for Children Diaper Bank, which serves families throughout the state. 

The event includes a family-style breakfast and beverages, as well as children's activities and an Easter egg hunt. 
There are two seatings. Doors open at 8:45 for the 9 a.m. seating and 9:45 for the 10 a.m. seating. 

The Easter Bunny will be available for pictures from 9-11 a.m.
Reservations/advance ticket purchases are strongly suggested.

Event to benefit CT Partnership for Children

OXFORD - Connecticut Partnership for Children, Inc. will host a “Ladies Night Out” event from 6-9 p.m. Nov. 16 at Colonial Tavern, 24 Hawley Road.

Tickets are $20 and may be purchased in advance online at www.ctpfc.org or by calling Christine Brainerd or Julie Pacitto, 203-262-8554. 
The ticket price includes appetizers, desserts, two cocktails (21 and up) or mocktails, and door prizes to the first 100 ladies through the door.
There will be music playing and a cash bar available with autumn drink specials. 

Vendors currently include Longaberger, Tupperware, Origami Owl, Pink Zebra, Premier Designs, Tastefully Simple, Pampered Chef, Scentsy, Thirty One Gifts, Silpada, Elle’s Blossoms & Bows, The Mad Hatter Boutique, Daddy’s, Tea with Tracy, and more.

Vendor applications still being accepted until Nov. 15. Cost to be a vendor is a $20 donation and an additional gift item for the raffle. 

All proceeds benefit CT Partnership for Children, Inc. a non-profit, 501©(3) organization, located in Seymour. The organization is dedicated to supporting low-income children throughout the state, by working with their families and the communities in which they live.
