The Bernadettes bring soul to Ansonia

Concert energizes crowd at Veterans Park

ANSONIA - Soul, love, and a heaping amount of fun. Those were the ingredients the New Haven-based Bernadettes used Wednesday to create a magical evening.

Kudos to the Ansonia Cultural Commission and member Jimmy Little in particular for getting The Bernadettes on the city's summer concert schedule.

R&B, rock, Motown: I enjoyed everything they played.

I'm sure I'm not the only one looking forward to their return next summer!

Army Band strikes a chord in Ansonia

The Rockville-based 102nd Army Band performs big band standards, jazz, Sinatra and more Wednesday night at a free summer concert at Veterans Park in Ansonia.

For one set some of the musicians went into the audience. I was seated in the front row and when I turned to my right I found a trombone next to my face.

My husband Ralph and I enjoyed last year's performance, and last night the musicians didn't disappoint. It was a fun concert.

Looking forward to their return visit next summer.

Army band delights Ansonia concert-goers

The 102nd Army stage band performs Wednesday at Veterans' Memorial Park in Ansonia.

ANSONIA - My husband Ralph and I enjoyed the sights and sounds of the 102nd Army Band Wednesday night in a free summer concert sponsored by the Ansonia Cultural Commission.

The band is made up of Connecticut National Guard members.

The band's brass ensemble took the stage ...

and some of them walked into the crowd

where they were well-received.

The American flag, Connecticut flag, and POW-MIA flag fly high above the musicians.  Here    the group's rock band is performing.

Here's another photo of the rockers.

The musicians inspired several audience members to get up and dance.

Judging by the standing ovation the audience gave the musicians it's safe to say the concert was a huge success.

The Cultural Commission will host Starving Artists, a Seymour-based rock band, at 7 p.m. Aug.  7.
See you at the park!
