Derby to hold All-Class Reunion

DERBY - The 15th Annual Derby All-Class Reunion will be held Aug. 30 on Labor Day weekend.
Originally conceived by the Derby Cultural Commission the event has been growing since.
The '70-'79 decade and earlier can meet at the Derby Elks Lodge and '80-'89 decade forward can meet at Archie Moore’s, both on Elizabeth Street.
Everyone is welcome to “move about the city” and check out all the establishments downtown.

Suggested meeting time is 7 p.m. but all are welcome downtown earlier to socialize, have dinner, enjoy the Valley Arts Council's Gallery@37 or maybe even take a dance lesson (call ahead).

This was not meant to take the place of each class’ own reunion but if a class is not having one then the chance a person going out that (same) night each year and knowing someone increases. Facebook users can also search Derby Memories and Reunions for up to date information.

For past photos please check out the FB page and  http://electronicvalley.org/derby/  and search for all-class reunion.

For information call Derby Elks Lodge, 203-735-1142; Archie Moore’s, 203-732-3255.

Derby High School alums enjoy reunion

DERBY - Originally conceived by Randy Ritter (pictured in back row in photo below) and the Cultural Commission, last Saturday was the 14th Annual All-Class Reunion Event.
It was run by the Cultural Commission for multiple years and continued by former classmates who wanted to keep the tradition alive.
It was not meant to take the place of an individual class reunion but if a class was not having one then this provided an alternative venue and was also a way of making contacts for individual reunions.

Facebook has become a big factor in promoting the event as well as a location to post photographs of the night which can be seen on Facebook at Derby (CT) Memories and Reunions as well as the Derby page link at http://electronicvalley.org/derby/2013/Reunion/index.html .

In the beginning there had been multiple venues classes could gather but within the past couple years it has appeared to settle with the Elks Lodge and Archie Moore’s Bar & Restaurant, although all were free to move about downtown. This year the weather was ideal to do so or even to enjoy the outdoor patio at Archie Moore’s.
For the past two years DHS alumnus Jack Walsh has brought forward a technology that allowed for live video online broadcasting and still can be seen through links at www.electronicvalley.org/derby.
Video taken at the Elks can be seen until the camera battery died. For the past several years the DJs at the Elks were also doing Karaoke and they were broadcasting live audio of the night and sometimes rebroadcast at http://www.megawattradio.com/ .
It appeared that classes from at least from the 1940s through the 2000s were in attendance and that a good time was had by all.

All-Class Reunion to feature 'Live from Derby' app

DERBY - The 13th Annual Derby All-Class Reunion committee has announced an exciting possibility for the night of the Sept. 1 event. For a small window of time members are looking to be "Live from Derby, Ct., the Derby All-Class Reunion."
Alumnus Jack Walsh has been investigating how to do it and it will be broadcast through an Upstream App.
Users will be able to click on the Facebook Reunion and Memories page created by alumnus Dan Allen or go to the Derby page at www.electronicvalley.org/derby and click on the links. If you go there you will be able to see three of the tests run Saturday night and while the test was in progress an additional user logged on.
This feature will be great for those who are too far away to attend but still giving them a chance to not only see what's happening but also sending a chat message as well. One just needs to create a user name. It's simple and free.
The All-Class Reunion will be held Saturday with classes 1979 and earlier meeting at the Elks Lodge and 1980 and later at Archie Moore's restaurant. Everyone is encouraged to "move about the city" that night.

This information was contributed by alumnus Markanthony Izzo of Derby.
