ANSONIA — More than 100 sixth-graders at John G. Prendergast School Thursday celebrated Star- Spangled Banner Day with members of Gordon-Visselli Post 50, American Legion.
Navy reservist Patrick Henri, Post 50 finance officer, said the American Legion recently drafted a resolution to make March 3 an annual day of observance in recognition of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
On March 3, 1931, “The Star-Spangled Banner” became the national anthem when President Herbert Hoover signed a measure into law.
