Seymour Pink Day shows support to survivors, families

SEYMOUR - Bunches of pink balloons printed with the Seymour Pink, Inc. logo Wednesday greeted visitors to downtown - including yours truly - on the fifth annual Seymour Pink Day.

Seymour Pink, Inc. was founded in 2009 by Seymour High School teacher Mary Deming in memory of her mother, Theodosia McEnerney, who died at age 55 from breast cancer.

Unfortunately I couldn't get there until mid-afternoon, when some of the balloons were beginning to deflate.

But as a breast cancer survivor I definitely felt the community's love and support as I strolled the sidewalks in the historic district.

The color pink is no stranger to Tinkled Pink, a shop filled with all kinds of wonderful boutique items, at 23 Bank St. Employees said they always wear pink shirts when they work.

Down the block I spied Dragonflies, a floral studio at 33 Bank St., decked out in pinkness.

I met Diane Trevelin, dressed in an official 2013 Seymour Pink T-shirt, who was working inside. She was more than happy to pose for a photo in front of the floral shop. I love the decorated pink (Christmas) tree.

A mix of autumnal and pink decorations was eye-catching here and at all of the stores downtown.

On the other side of the street and down towards Main Street, Dancing Chihuahua, a consignment shop at 4 Bank St., featured a pink tutu in the window...

... and a vintage pink prom gown hanging from a tree.

These photos show just a few of the festive decorations downtown.

Several merchants mentioned they plan to participate in the fourth annual Night Out for the Cause next Thursday (Oct. 24).

Here's the slightly edited press release I received about it today:

"On Oct. 24 participating businesses in downtown Seymour will stay open from 5-8 p.m. to benefit Seymour Pink. Portions of the night’s proceeds will be donated to Seymour Pink, our local breast cancer awareness group.
"Participating businesses are The All-American General Store, The Dancing Chihuahua, Dragonflies, Tea With Tracy, Yesterday’s Luxuries, Ozzie’s, Law Firm of Karen Fisher, Tickled Pink, The Mad Hatter, A Window In Time, and The Main St. Antiques Center.

"Join us for a special evening for a great cause. For more information contact Kim, 203-888-8898."

As a recipient of the generosity of Seymour Pink in the past, I hope business is booming next week. That will not only help shop owners it will give a financial boost to the nonprofit, so that it can in turn help many more breast cancer survivors in the community.
