DERBY >> The 1874 house at 350 Derby Ave., ruled a threat to public
health and safety, came crashing to the ground Monday morning, exposing one of
the nation’s oldest cemeteries.
“This is a gem that’s been hidden all these years,” Mayor Anita Dugatto
said.
The Old Derby Uptown Burying Ground, also known as the Colonial Cemetery,
dates back to 1687.
Dugatto is hopeful a small parking area can be built where the house stood,
so the cemetery can become an attraction as a historic site.
