DERBY — Getting to court may soon mean a longer drive, and once there, you may have a longer wait.
The courthouse on Elizabeth Street soon may only be open three days per week, and solely handle infractions and small-claims matters. All criminal cases, and motor vehicle cases requiring a court appearance, would be handled in Milford instead. The local child and spousal support enforcement docket would be handled in Bridgeport.
These are among the changes being considered as the state Judicial Branch grapples with a $38 million reduction in funding.
