Hot, nutritionally balanced meals are available five days a week to Valley senior citizens 60 years of age and older through TEAM’s Elderly Nutrition Program.
The program serves the communities of Ansonia, Derby, Oxford, Seymour and Shelton.
The meals are available through TEAM’s Meals on Wheels and Senior Community Cafes Programs.
The Meals on Wheels Program delivers meals directly to homebound seniors who cannot shop for or prepare meals on their own because of physical disabilities. Drivers deliver each hot meal at lunchtime, Monday through Friday. They also provide a daily safety check. Openings are available.
The Senior Community Cafes congregate meal program provides a noon meal in group settings at four locations: Derby Senior Center, Doyle Senior Center, Ansonia, the Rev. A. Callahan House, Seymour, and Griffin Hospital, Derby.
Participants in the congregate meal program have the opportunity to socialize while enjoying nutritionally-balanced meals. As part of the program, nutrition education is also made available. In addition to noon time meals the Griffin Hospital Senior Meals Choice Program provides evening meals at 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
There is no fee to participate in the programs; a contribution of $3 is suggested. Donations are used to supplement and expand nutrition services. If a person is unable to make a contribution, service will not be denied.
For eligibility requirements and information about the programs, contact Ron Boucher, TEAM Nutrition Coordinator, 203-736-5420 ext. 227.
Funding for Meals on Wheels and Senior. Community Cafés is provided by the Agency on Aging of South Central Connecticut, the Valley United Way, Katharine Matthies Foundation, Hewitt Foundation and program participant donations.
TEAM programs serve the communities of Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Bethany, Derby, Milford, Orange, Oxford, Shelton, Seymour and Woodbridge.
