HARTFORD — An Oxford man’s attempt to convince a judge he is not the drug kingpin he’s been portrayed failed this week, all but guaranteeing a long prison term.
U.S. District Judge Vanessa L. Bryant ruled Monday there is convincing evidence Cheyne Mazza ran a large marijuana growing operation, had a “cadre of dealers to sell the marijuana,” and intimidated witnesses.
Bryant agreed with the Office of Probation, which recommended Mazza’s base offense level be adjusted upward for “his leadership role in a conspiracy, for maintaining multiple premises for the cultivation of a controlled substance, witness intimidation and obstruction of justice.”
